Centennial Events


The final Centennial Event of the year will be Fireworks at Neahwa Park at 8 pm.
There will also be low-key family events around the city in the afternoon and early evening, with details to come shortly.


Previous events:

Reception to honor Oneonta's past mayors.

The reception takes place at the Stack Lounge of Dewar Hall on the Hartwick College campus. Invitations are required at the door and there are a limited number of invitations available on a first-come first-serve basis at the City Clerk's Office at City Hall.

Reception takes place Saturday November 8 from 6 to 8 pm.


Centennial Parade was Saturday October 4th at 4:30 p.m.

The parade now has over 100 entries!

Watch for the parade to come up over the viaduct and to march westbound down Main Street from Chestnut to Grand. The reviewing stand with judges will be in Kim Muller plaza downtown. Parade will be announced by Big Chuck from the reviewing stand.

Please come early and plan to park well away from Main Street as we anticipate strong community turnout.

Parade participants please meet in Neahwa Park between 3 and 4 pm. Non-parade vehicles please park outside of the park.

2008 Events:

January: New Year's Eve fireworks. New Year's Eve events include community dinners, evening music programming, downtown speeches, a community procession to Neahwa Park, a traditional bonfire, and knock-your-socks-off fireworks at midnight.

February 21: Oneonta's Architectural History. Greater Oneonta Historical Society’s Loraine Tyler will present “Reflections of Oneonta Through Its Architecture” on Thursday February 21 at 7:00 PM at the History Center on Main Street in Oneonta. Using photos from the past, she will trace the rich and varied history of Oneonta through the development of architectural styles. Dr. Tyler will focus on residential housing in Oneonta’s neighborhoods, from simple log cabins to Victorian “Painted Ladies.” The program is free at open to the public.

March 15: Centennial Ball in the Asa C. Allison Municipal Building (the old Armory)

April 26: Coordinated community event with OH-Fest May: Governor's reenactment of the City Charter signing

May 9: Oneonta Concert Association presents world-reknown Quartetto Gelato at the Hunt Union Hall on the SUCO campus

June 14: Flag Day Ice Cream Social on the upper level of Wilber Park

July 4: Vintage Baseball Game preceding the free Tigers' game

July 16: Portrait of a Town: Stephen Joseph Celebrates Oneonta. Commemorating the Centennial of the City Charter, in conjunction with the Oneonta Centennial Committee and the Greater Oneonta Historical Society. July 1 - July 30, 2008. Reception: Wednesday, July 16, 5-7 pm Martin-Mullen Art Gallery (formerly the Fine Arts Gallery), Fine Arts Building, State University of New York College at Oneonta.

August 30: Balloon Launch and evening glow at Neahwa Park. See details above.

Centennial Balloon Festival is Saturday August 30.
